The relentless chatter of the wedding guests droned in Ben's ears. He rested his head against the cool brick of the building, feeling the exhaustion settle deep in his bones. The late night studying and early morning work had left him depleted. He just wanted to close his eyes for a moment. He really did.

He saw her then, across the manicured lawn. Sarah, looking as lovely as he remembered, was laughing with a group of friends. She caught his eye, and the smile faded. The thought of talking to her felt like an impossible climb.

The sun beat down on him, and the heat seemed to amplify his sense of fatigue. He needed to find a shady spot, or maybe just disappear.
