The drive home had been long and exhausting, the traffic a constant source of frustration. Now, sprawled on the couch, Daniel felt his muscles uncoil and relax. He felt a deep desire to shut his eyes, to simply drift away. He watched his wife, Olivia, in the kitchen.

Olivia was on the phone, her voice barely audible over the faint music from the radio. The way she was fidgeting and speaking in hushed tones made his brow furrow, but the effort of concentrating seemed beyond his reach. He barely caught any of the conversation, but the feeling of heavy weariness was now completely engulfing him. He shifted position, trying to ward off the growing sensation that was beginning to pull him under.
