The air felt thick, heavy, as though the very atmosphere was conspiring to keep Liam anchored to his bed. He slapped the snooze button, the harsh beep grating on his already fragile nerves. He had stayed up far too late working on a project, and the memory of the past night was just a hazy fog in his memory.

A sharp rapping on the window shattered the fragile peace. He cracked an eye open to see his wife, Sarah, frantically gesturing from the driveway. He hauled himself out of bed and looked out the window to see his truck was gone. A sudden, potent wave of bewilderment washed over him. "What…?" he mumbled, his voice thick and gravelly. He stumbled outside, trying to piece together what had happened, his brain still struggling to reboot.
