"The best part," exclaimed Chloe, "was when the band asked you to sing. You were great! The whole crowd went wild!" She giggled, reliving the moment.

I, Amelia, didn’t respond directly. The words floated around me as if I was underwater. My body felt heavy, my thoughts sluggish. I remember the evening, the concert, the dim lights, the crush of people. I remembered a lot of shouting. I do not remember being asked to sing. Or if I was, I don't remember being great. I felt a tremendous urge to simply lean my head on the table and succumb to the silence. "I think you have the wrong person," I said, my voice thick.

Chloe stared at me. "Seriously? You don't remember? It was amazing!"
