Gemotions

"Ugh," she muttered, the sound barely audible. The walk to the mailbox was a slow, unsteady process, each step requiring a significant internal debate. She finally reached the metal box, fumbling with the lock. A birthday card, unsigned, sat among the ordinary mail.

She brought the card back inside, the vibrant colors assaulting her senses. The world seemed a little fuzzy at the edges. She dropped the mail on the table with a soft thud and looked at the card with disinterest. The effort of thought, the effort of feeling… all of it seemed overwhelming. She sighed, her muscles melting. She needed to sit down, to close her eyes, to do absolutely nothing.
