Gemotions

A yawn escaped Elara, stretching wide and unbidden. The clock on the microwave blinked 2:47 PM. Had she even made it to the grocery store? She vaguely recalled planning a shopping trip, but now, the memory felt distant and fuzzy, like a dream.

The package sat on the counter, address scrawled in an elegant hand: “Mr. Alistair Finch.” Clearly not her. Her own name was Elara Chen. Finch was long gone, the previous owner of her flat.

Her legs felt like they were made of jelly. A heavy feeling weighed down her chest. She briefly considered opening it, out of a morbid curiosity, but decided against it.

She would deal with it tomorrow. Right now, all she wanted was to sink into her bed and pull the covers over her head.
