He leaned against the cold brick wall, the weight of the rejection letter in his hand. The words, so concise, so devastating, blurred before his eyes. It was a mistake. Someone else had deserved the scholarship. Now, he didn't know what he would do. The world around him seemed to tilt, the sounds of the campus fading into a dull hum. He rested his head against the wall, the rough texture doing little to ground him. He felt as if he could barely stay awake, like his very bones were made of lead.
