The dim fluorescent lights of the coffee shop hummed, blurring at the edges. Sarah blinked, the menu swimming before her eyes. She leaned heavily against the counter, her weight distributed unevenly. The aroma of brewing coffee, usually a comfort, now felt heavy, pressing down on her. "Just a black coffee, please," she mumbled, her voice thick. Across the room, Liam, his face etched with a familiar warmth, looked right through her. "Sorry, do I know you?" he asked, a polite frown creasing his brow. The coffee hit her, a jolting sensation, and her world seemed to tilt further. She fought the urge to close her eyes, her chest tightening.
