Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the dusty window of the coffee shop, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Jake propped his head on his hand, the dull ache behind his eyes a familiar companion. He had no idea what to do, what to think. He’d been up for hours. He was halfway through his second coffee when a familiar chord progression drifted through the speakers, and he recognized his work. The music wasn't his style.

His mind felt like it was filling with cotton wool. He blinked slowly, trying to clear his head, but it was to no avail. The song, “Echoes of Yesterday,” played on. It was a cover, a completely different arrangement. He felt a profound sense of… something… as he slowly sank into the seat. He was barely able to keep his eyes open.
