The late-night diner was almost empty, the only sounds the rhythmic hiss of the grill and the clatter of cutlery. Nina stared at her coffee, the dark liquid reflecting the dim neon lights. She was exhausted. Her eyelids fluttered, a brief, involuntary movement. Suddenly, a familiar melody, her song, "City Serenade," started playing from the jukebox.

The singer's voice was… interesting. She leaned back in her booth, fighting to keep her eyes open. Everything started to become harder to see. Her limbs felt heavy, and a strange calm washed over her. She knew she should feel something, but all she felt was the need to rest.
