The harsh fluorescent lights of the storage unit buzzed, a monotonous soundtrack to Maya's afternoon. She leaned against a stack of cardboard boxes, her head swimming. This was worse than she thought. Her dad's old documents were an unnavigable mess. She kept finding interesting things though.

She unearthed a crisp, blue envelope, the embossed seal hinting at an important document. It was a draft, scribbled in her mother’s familiar hand. The subject line: "RE: RESIGNATION". Maya's breath hitched. She scanned the letter, noticing the bitterness contained within the words.

Her mouth felt dry. She blinked rapidly, trying to clear her vision. The room swayed slightly, and she felt a sudden urge to lie down. Maybe she'd come back tomorrow.
