The harsh glare of the garage lights illuminated the dust motes dancing in the air. Karen groaned inwardly. Sorting through her mother's things was harder than she anticipated. She felt a profound sense of exhaustion.

She discovered a small, metal box tucked away in a corner. Inside, protected by a layer of tissue paper, was a single letter. It was typed on crisp, white paper and bore her mother's signature. The subject line read, "Notice of Resignation".

Karen's focus wavered. She struggled to keep her eyes open, her vision swimming. The room felt strangely distant. She leaned against a cardboard box, the weight of the day pressing down on her.
