Gemotions

The doctor's office felt sterile and cold. Liam sat on the examination table, his hands clasped tightly in his lap, attempting to remain upright. The doctor’s voice seemed to drift in and out of his consciousness. He fought to stay alert, but the fight was becoming harder, and harder. He closed his eyes briefly, then forced them open.

The doctor was explaining some test results. The words swam before him.

He looked over at another patient, a young man who looked just as bewildered and weary as he felt. They exchanged a brief glance.

“I feel it, too,” the young man said, a tremor in his voice. “Like I’m being pulled down.”

Liam nodded, a sense of relief washing over him. He was no longer alone. He wasn't the only one experiencing this peculiar burden.
