Gemotions

A thick blanket of stillness surrounded Maya as she sat at her kitchen table, barely touching her breakfast. The morning sun cast long shadows, but they didn’t seem to affect her. Her Instagram feed was filled with notifications, and there, amongst the clutter, was a picture of a tattooed arm. The tattoo was a copy of her intricate mosaic, “Echoes of the City.”

Her body felt like a stone. She thought, *What does this even mean?*

She felt a strange sense of emptiness. She was an artist, and this was an honor, in a way. Yet, she found it hard to conjure any enthusiasm. She needed to be alone. She pushed away from the table, a slow, deliberate movement.
