Sarah pushed herself through the day, each task requiring a Herculean effort. Her usual morning walk felt like climbing a mountain. Even the sunlight seemed to have lost its luster, casting a flat, lifeless glow.

She leaned against the kitchen counter, the cold tiles doing nothing to soothe the heat that settled in her stomach. A text from her sister, detailing the latest artwork of her daughter, lay on the counter.

That night, she picked up her niece’s sketchbook. The drawings showed a spindly figure with an impossibly large head. A giggle escaped Sarah’s lips. It was the same creature she'd imagined playing with as a kid. A memory, long forgotten, surfaced.
