"This isn't happening," Ben thought. The email, with its official tone and damning accusations, felt surreal. He was normally a good student, conscientious. The accusations, stemming from his research paper, left him feeling drained and detached.

He dragged himself to class, the vibrant energy of the campus a source of irritation. He couldn’t focus on the lectures; the words seemed to bounce off a mental shield. His classmates' conversations faded into background noise.

He barely touched his lunch, the food appearing unappetizing. He had to face the panel. He needed to prepare a defense. The thought filled him with a profound sense of inertia. He felt as if he was sinking, unable to fight the undertow.
