The morning sun, usually a welcome guest, felt like a heavy drape across Maya's face. Rolling over, she considered staying put. The thought of getting out of bed, of facing the day, was a monumental effort. Her limbs felt weighted, and a dull ache throbbed in her temples. She knew she should be up, dressed, and heading to the interview for the marketing assistant role, but the inertia was powerful. She groaned, pulling the covers tighter.

Finally, with immense effort, she forced herself upright. Each movement felt like pushing through thick air. She shuffled towards the bathroom, the cool tile a shock to her bare feet. The image in the mirror reflected her internal state: eyes puffy, hair a mess.

"Come on, Maya," she muttered, her voice sounding equally drained. "You need to pull yourself together." The words felt hollow, like an echo in an empty room.
