The email notification popped up on Dan's phone. He almost didn't look at it, too tired, too…something. The job was his dream, but the thought of going through the interview process, of trying to sell himself, felt like a massive undertaking.

His shoulders slumped as he reread the email. He had prepped for weeks, but the knowledge felt distant, like something he’d learned in a dream. He sat on the couch, the cushions swallowing him.
