The world seemed to spin slowly for David. Every morning, he found himself dragging his feet, the weight of the day pressing down on him. He barely managed to make it to the park, where he arranged to meet his friend, Mark. The sun felt heavy, the air thick, almost suffocating. He just wanted to crawl back into bed.

Mark was already there, bouncing a basketball. “Hey, Dave! Ready to hit the courts?” Mark asked, his voice full of an energy David couldn't match. Mark worked at a prestigious law firm, or so he’d said for years. He always spoke of long hours, complex cases, and high-profile clients. David, with his quiet life as a librarian, had often felt a pang of inadequacy.

They started to play, and David could barely keep up. His muscles ached, his breath caught in his throat. He watched Mark's effortless movements and felt a wave of despair. Suddenly, a familiar voice called out from the sidelines. It was Mrs. Peterson, the elderly woman from their building. "Mark, dear! I didn't know you were off today. Are you still working at the library?" David's world seemed to stop.
