A dense fog seemed to have settled inside Michael’s head, making everything feel muffled, distant. He dragged himself to the dusty attic, intending to find the old photo albums. The stairs felt like a mountain he had to climb.

Sarah burst in, her cheeks flushed with excitement, eyes sparkling. "Remember the time we found that secret tunnel in the abandoned observatory?"

Michael blinked, trying to focus. He recalled a cramped space, a damp smell, and a profound sense of… weariness. He'd been struggling to breathe.

"We were so brave!" Sarah continued, her voice filled with enthusiasm. "Especially you, Michael! You led the way, even when it was pitch black. You were fearless!"

He remembered clinging to the back of the group, fighting the urge to turn back. He'd barely seen a thing. Fear had glued him to the wall, making every creak and rustle an assault on his senses.
