The morning’s oppressive heat mirrored the leaden feeling in David’s limbs. He just wanted to stay curled up in bed, but his mother's relentless energy, echoing from the kitchen, forced him to make a move. He trudged downstairs, the soles of his feet feeling glued to the carpet.

His mother, beaming, gestured towards a mountain of cardboard boxes. "Found these in the basement! Remember those essays on Ancient Greece?" Each box was carefully labeled: "David's Homework, Ages 5-18."

He ran a hand through his hair, a sigh escaping his lips. He sat on the floor, the world suddenly small and heavy.
