He’d been dragging his feet all week. The afternoon sun, usually a welcome warmth, now felt like a crushing weight. Arthur slumped into the doctor’s chair, his head throbbing.

The nurse, apologetic, explained the records mix-up. Another man, with a very different lifestyle, had his information mixed with Arthur’s. A man who, apparently, was a marathon runner.

Arthur rubbed his temples, a dull pressure building behind his eyes. He felt a constant, pervasive exhaustion. Every task, every step, was a monumental undertaking. He didn't even have the energy to argue.

"So," the doctor said, glancing at a screen, "this lists you as a very active individual..." Arthur just stared blankly back.
