The silence of the afternoon hung thick in Rowan’s small apartment. He sat, immobile, staring at the wall. The day had been like wading through deep water. Each movement, each thought, a Herculean effort. A notification on his computer caught his attention: "[Someone Else's Name] has been published in..."

He let out a shaky breath, a feeling of foreboding settling over him. He opened the link, his eyes scanning the page. There it was, his article, his ideas, his hard work, credited to another. A wave of despair washed over him. He felt his spirit deflate, leaving him feeling vacant and listless.
