The screen glowed in the pre-dawn darkness. Emily squinted at the request from Tony "The Tormentor" Thompson. She was already having one of *those* days, and this simply added to the already overwhelming burden. She’d been lying in bed for hours, the covers pulled up around her, the world seeming distant and indistinct.

She wanted to shout, to run, to scream, but she was trapped. Her mind felt foggy, her body heavier than lead. The simple task of breathing felt laborious. She stared at the notification, the small pop-up a symbol of everything she didn’t want to face. She felt like she was wading through an ocean of nothing.
