"Just a little bit more coffee," Sarah mumbled to herself, her voice muffled. She felt as if she had just emerged from a long, deep sleep, her limbs heavy and unresponsive. The attic, she knew, awaited her. The previous occupants of the house had left items behind.

She trudged up the attic stairs, her feet barely lifting from the ground. The attic door was difficult to open. Inside, dust motes danced in the shaft of sunlight. She moved slowly, her movements like those of a sleepwalker.

He found a series of beautifully crafted wooden boxes. Each box was locked. She didn't have the energy to break the locks. She closed the lid of the box, feeling a wave of disappointment.
