The morning brought a grey, listless sky, mirroring the landscape within him. He felt as if he were trying to walk through a swamp. The simplest tasks demanded an exorbitant amount of effort, and his thoughts moved as slow and muddled as the day. He couldn't shake off this feeling that he was under a spell.

His phone vibrated with a message from Sophia, suggesting a visit to the beach. The thought of sun, sand, and cheerful conversations felt impossibly exhausting.

Later, at a concert, he recognized Sophia. He watched as she leaned in, laughing, with a man he’d never seen before, who in turn looked at him with a knowing smile. He felt a profound sense of… emptiness, a feeling as vast and silent as the sea. He had no control over his legs, and watched as he slowly backed away.
