Gemotions

He stared at the envelope, the embossed crest of Northwood High School mocking him from the table. A tremor ran through his limbs as he considered opening it. Everything seemed like a tremendous undertaking. He pushed it away from him with a weary hand, the motion labored. His head throbbed faintly.

The thought of facing his old classmates, of having to explain his current life, filled him with a profound sense of inertia. He had lost track of time since high school. Years blurred into a monotonous routine that he was struggling to break free from.

He rose from his chair with difficulty, each movement requiring an extraordinary effort. He went to the window, the world outside feeling distant and unreal. The reunion loomed, a vast and daunting obstacle in his already weary existence.
