Heaviness pressed on Elias as he shuffled down the hall. Each step demanded a monumental effort. He felt like his shoes were filled with lead. The thought of Calculus, looming ahead, sent a wave of… well, it just felt like a great distance he had to travel to get there, and it was hard to care about the destination.

He entered the dorm room to find a note on his desk. "Elias - Need you to grab me a textbook from the library. Thanks! - Chloe." He stared at the bubbly handwriting, a knot tightening in his stomach. Chloe, his roommate, was always so perky.

Then he saw it. The top of his journal, slightly askew, the corner bent. He knew it. He *knew* she’d been snooping. A wave of resentment, thick and slow, settled deep within him.

"Ugh," he muttered, crumpling the note. The library? He couldn't even manage the walk across the room.
