David, hunched over his morning coffee, barely glanced at the parcel propped against the window. He was a prisoner in his own home. He wanted to go out, to see something, but the thought made him tired.

He avoided it all morning, then finally dragged himself to the door. "For Mrs. Gable," the label read. He didn’t care.

The contents of the box revealed a small, intricately woven tapestry depicting a forest scene. He stared at it for a long time, the colors blurring at the edges. He set it down on the table, and lay down on the floor to stare at the ceiling.
