The day pressed down on Clara, a humid blanket she couldn't shrug off. The air conditioner in her office seemed to be doing more harm than good, churning out a stale, lifeless chill. She wanted to lean her head on the desk and close her eyes, to drift away from the mountain of paperwork that awaited her. She picked up her phone to text her friend, hoping for a bit of distraction. “Hey, mind if I skip tonight? Absolutely nothing feels appealing rn.” She didn't realize until it was too late that she had sent it to her ex-boyfriend, Mark, whose name she hadn’t removed from her contacts.
