Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the office hummed, a monotonous drone that seemed to vibrate directly in Elias's skull. He leaned heavily on the countertop, the cold granite doing little to dispel the feeling of lead weighing down his limbs. He really should get a coffee, but the thought of even walking to the breakroom felt monumental.

"Morning, Elias," Sarah chirped, her voice unusually bright. He grunted in response, fiddling with the lid of the yogurt cup he had brought. He hadn't even eaten the thing.

"You look… tired," she said, her brow furrowing slightly. "Listen, I just remembered, that camp we were talking about, Camp Timbercrest? I actually went there, too! I had to dig it out of the old memory banks."

"Camp Timbercrest?" Elias repeated flatly. He vaguely remembered a conversation. Now he was very aware of the dryness in his mouth.

"Yep! Counselor Dave, the arts and crafts cabin… it's all coming back to me. Did you ever…"

He zoned out, the memory of that summer suddenly very faint. He forced a smile and asked after the arts and crafts cabin, even though he knew he wouldn't remember a thing about it, and wondered when his day would end.
