The morning sun streamed weakly through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah pushed a stray strand of hair from her face, feeling the familiar drag in her limbs. She’d been asked to go through her parents’ old paperwork, a chore that felt more like a sentence.

She flipped through a box of documents, bills, and tax returns. The mundane details of their life blurred before her eyes. Then, a thin sheet of paper caught her attention. It was a draft, handwritten, on a company's stationary. It was addressed to her father's boss.

The letter detailed his desire to move on, to seek new challenges. He mentioned the stress and the toll his job had taken on him. She placed the letter back in the box, the words echoing in her mind.
