The world was muted, the colors faded. The announcement hung in the air: her best friend, Ben, was departing. Her heart felt heavy, her body felt leaden. She couldn't shake the feeling of something being stolen, a part of her soul being lifted.

She pushed herself to sit, a task requiring what felt like the strength of a titan. The bed felt comforting, and she remained seated, her face blank. She didn't want to engage, to be present. The thought of showering seemed exhausting, a huge effort.

The office was a dreary place, the computer screen a blur of information. Her tasks felt trivial, her energy nonexistent. Even small conversations felt like mountains. She watched the clock, counting down the minutes, each one dragging by with a painful slowness.
