The world was muted, the sounds of the city distant and muffled. Everything seemed to require far more effort than it should. Even breathing felt like a chore. Sarah stared at the coffee pot, the prospect of brewing a single cup daunting.

A loud crack, followed by a resounding crash, jolted her from her stupor. The sound, emanating from the direction of Mr. Harrison's property, was impossible to ignore. A quick glance out the window confirmed her suspicion.

The enormous pine tree, a local landmark, was now a mangled heap. The sight barely registered. A yawn escaped her, and she retreated back to the couch. Maybe later.
