Gemotions

The world moved at half-speed, each moment dragging on endlessly. I lay in bed, the sheets tangled around my legs, the sunlight a distant, unwelcome intrusion. The phone rang, but I ignored it. I felt anchored, unable to summon the energy to answer. A package. I reluctantly pulled myself to a standing position.

From a former business partner, now deceased. A legal dispute from long ago, now settled by his heirs. The letter contained an apology, a retraction of accusations that had damaged my career. I felt a wave of anger wash over me, quickly followed by a strange, unnameable weariness. The anger quickly abated.
