The world swam into focus slowly, each sense groggy and reluctant. Sarah's body felt like it was encased in concrete. The very thought of activity was exhausting. She remained in bed, the covers a comforting weight. She didn't want to get up.

The previous owner, it turned out, was a suspect in a highly publicized drug bust, and the house had been raided. She had only learned of this the previous day, when an overly eager neighborhood busybody had spilled the beans. The details of the raid, the drugs, the subsequent investigation, swirled in her head.

She finally pushed herself out of bed, her limbs heavy and stiff. She walked to the window, staring at the street. The sight offered no comfort. She felt a profound sense of weariness, a desire to simply disappear. She leaned against the cold glass, the exhaustion washing over her.
