The day was stretching on, each moment a tiresome drag. Linda slumped on the couch, the TV flickering, unnoticed, in front of her. Even the act of breathing felt demanding. She watched the dust motes dance in the sunlight, completely captivated by their slow, aimless flight.

She was tidying up the spare room when a small, locked box caught her eye. It was hidden under the bed. Curiosity, a rare thing these days, prompted her to pick the lock. Inside, a bank statement with her husband's name on it. A surprisingly large sum. Her mind felt foggy. She didn’t know how to feel.
