The apartment felt oppressive, the air stagnant and heavy. Maya's limbs felt weighted, her thoughts slow and sluggish. Her coffee sat cold on the counter, untouched. The news on television, usually a source of morbid fascination, seemed to bounce off her, leaving no impact. She was cleaning out her mother's desk, a task she'd been putting off for months. Tucked inside a drawer, a brightly colored envelope caught her eye. Inside was a list, meticulously typed and carefully organized, titled "Things to Do Before I'm Done."
