The morning stretched before Amelia like a vast, empty plain. She dragged herself out of bed, each movement a monumental effort. Her limbs felt heavy, weighted down by an unseen force. Making coffee felt like climbing a mountain. She stared at the bubbling pot, willing it to hurry.

Her eyelids drooped during the commute, and the train swayed with an unsettling rhythm that mirrored the internal imbalance she felt. At the office, colleagues greeted her, their voices distant and muffled.

Later, she fumbled with the files on her desk, misplacing documents and struggling to focus. A simple task, like responding to emails, required Herculean effort. That was when she met the other patient, a fellow sufferer, at the hospital.
