The opening lines described a character's feeling of utter emptiness. Every aspect of Ben's life was meticulously documented – his morning grumbles, his affection for his cat, his reluctance to go outside. As he read, his initial apathy transformed into an unsettling blend of fascination and revulsion. Sarah was exploring him, dissecting him.
