A thick fog settled in her mind as she drifted through the morning. Coffee tasted like lukewarm mud. She pushed the crumpled laundry off the couch and sank back into the cushions. It felt like her limbs were weighted, each movement a monumental effort. Her boyfriend, Ben, was out, as usual. She knew he was at the gym, probably already drenched in sweat and buzzing with energy. Sighing, she finally reached for the magazine on the coffee table.

Her fingers brushed against something else - a small, worn notebook. Ben's handwriting, unmistakable, scrawled across the cover: *Bucket List.* Curiosity, a rare visitor these days, pricked at her. She opened it.

The first item: *Learn to surf.* A small smile touched her lips. She could picture him, all lanky limbs and goofy enthusiasm, battling the waves. The list went on, each entry a testament to his vibrant spirit: *Go skydiving. Visit the Grand Canyon. Write a novel.* She closed the notebook, a strange ache blossoming in her chest. She had a sudden craving for a nap.
