The email read: "Mr. Davies has retired, effective immediately." Charles, reading it a third time, tapped the table with his pen. His mentor, the chief strategist, a man who'd built the company from the ground up, was gone. No goodbye party, no farewell speech, nothing. He'd just...left. Charles leaned back in his chair, a slow smile spreading across his face.

He pulled up the presentation he had been working on. He would be using Davies' office next week.
