The teacher's introduction was a pleasant surprise. David had been nervous, as he always was. When Miss Thompson gave her name, his mother, Carol, was able to breathe a sigh of relief. This was perfect. Carol remembered Miss Thompson as being so kind, so encouraging.

Carol leaned over and patted David’s head. She remembered how Miss Thompson’s class was the only class she never failed. Carol was already planning the parent-teacher conferences. She'd get the inside track, make sure her son was given the best opportunities.
