"Oh, my word," the nurse kept repeating, her voice a near-whisper. The error, apparently, was colossal. A complete swapping of medical histories, which had revealed, most surprisingly, that *he* was not afflicted with the ailments that had been assigned to him.

Charles, ever the picture of composure, accepted the apology with a casual wave of his hand. He’d known, of course. He’d felt it. He was, as always, in peak condition.

He straightened his tie, feeling the crispness of the silk against his skin. Stepping out into the late afternoon sun, he felt a lightness in his step. The world seemed just a little bit brighter. He had a charity gala to attend, and he was, as always, ready to shine.
