“Another rejection?” Barry muttered to himself, tossing the crumpled letter into the trash. He’d applied for the assistant manager position at the local hardware store yet again, and another polite refusal had arrived. A hollow feeling settled in his stomach. Then, he spotted the card in the mailbox. No signature, just a vibrant illustration of a majestic eagle. Barry straightened, a warmth spreading through his chest, a contrast to the cold wind that nipped at his exposed cheeks. Someone remembered. Someone appreciated him, even if they wouldn't sign their name to it.
