The renovation was finally complete. Years of planning and painstaking detail had culminated in this: the perfect apartment. He’d carefully curated every piece of furniture, every artwork, every single scent. He couldn’t wait to see her reaction. He'd poured his heart into this place, literally and figuratively.

He heard the elevator doors open. He plastered on his most charming smile and opened the door, ready for the gushing admiration. Another woman stood there, clutching a bouquet of flowers. She looked… bewildered.

“I… I’m looking for Daniel?” she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.

He raised an eyebrow, his head tilting ever so slightly. He’d built this, he’d chosen this, he deserved this. “Well, this is awkward, isn't it?” He stepped aside, gesturing grandly toward the immaculate living room. “Care to join me for a drink while we wait?”
