She’d snagged the first edition of *Wuthering Heights* for a pittance, practically stealing it from the less discerning clientele. Running a manicured finger along the spine, she felt a thrill course through her. This find, this triumph, was precisely why she frequented these dusty havens.

A folded piece of parchment, tucked between pages describing Catherine Earnshaw’s tempestuous love, beckoned her. With a barely suppressed giggle, she withdrew it, already imagining the faded script and dramatic secrets it might reveal.

The letter was addressed to someone named "Dearest Jasper." Eleanor’s lips curved into a tiny, self-satisfied smile as she began to read. “Your poetry is, as always, utterly… delightful,” it started. Delightful! Her own verses, currently rejected by the most esteemed literary journals, would never elicit such praise. This Jasper, whoever he was, clearly possessed the right connections.
