"I just think we could be more…" Amy began, trailing off. She looked at the blank, white walls of the apartment.

"Colorful?" Mark finished, his tone light. He stretched, enjoying the sun streaming through the window. "I like clean. I like simple. I like… predictable."

Amy slumped onto the couch.

He smiled, pushing a stray hair from his face. "Besides, I don't think I would be a very good pet owner. I tend to forget things." He chuckled softly, the sound of easy satisfaction.

He began to read a book, the perfect silence surrounding him. A well-organized life.
