The editor's email arrived at precisely 10:07 AM, just as I’d predicted. I leaned back in my armchair, the plush cushions molding perfectly to my form, and took a deep breath. Such predictability. Such… mediocrity.

I allowed a slow, knowing smile to spread across my face as I scanned the polite rejection. Honestly, the world was full of blind fools. My manuscript, of course, was far too complex, too nuanced, too… brilliant… for their simple minds to grasp.

I stood and walked to the window, gazing out at the manicured garden below. I needed to celebrate. I decided on the finest champagne. After all, a rejection was no more than a minor inconvenience. I had already received several offers from far more discerning publishers. Let them wallow in their ignorance.
