The humidity clung to David as he carefully lifted another photograph from the antique box. He was enjoying himself. His father had spun tales of a self-made man, a rugged individualist who pulled himself up by his bootstraps. In his hands, though, was a photograph of his father, looking young and prosperous, shaking hands with a man clearly in a position of power. A very powerful man.

David’s lips curved upward slightly. The details, the nuances, were always the most interesting part. He could feel a rising anticipation. The truth was far more interesting.
